July 2025

Candidates Testing With Credentia – Per North Carolina Session Law 2025-47 (Senate Bill 391) , Class C licenses (standard passenger vehicle licenses) expiring on or after July 1, 2025, will be accepted for two years beyond the printed expiration date. The NC Division of Motor Vehicles will allow this process until December 31, 2027. This does not apply to commercial driver licenses, or any licenses that are suspended, revoked, or cancelled.

December 2024:

Candidates Testing With Credentia – The NC Division of Motor Vehicles issues a paper certificate for temporary licenses, permits, and identifications that is valid for 60 days. This is a valid form of identification for the nurse aide and medication aide state-approved exams. On the day of the exam, you are not required to bring an expired form of identification along with the new temporary certificate.

August 2024:

Credentia test sites will transition from Conductor to the Credentia Platform on October 1, 2024. Technical specifications apply.

July 31, 2024:

The new Nurse Aide I curriculum is available. Training programs are required to implement the new curriculum by February 1, 2025.

February 26, 2024:

Beginning April 1, 2024, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and Credentia are making changes to the skills component of the Nurse Aide I state-approved competency evaluation.

Modifications implemented during COVID-19 are being removed.

September 2023:

All Candidate Handbooks are going digital beginning January 1, 2024. The last day to order paper handbooks is December 31, 2023.
